The Performance Management Playbook: Practical Strategies for Coaching, Documentation, & Legal Risk

November 17, 2026
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Virtual Event

Effective performance management is more than completing an annual review—it requires clear expectations, timely feedback, meaningful conversations, and documentation that accurately reflects what occurred. Join Angela Karachristos, HR Operations Manager at Tighe & Bond and John Gannon, Partner at Skoler Abbott for a practical discussion on how HR professionals and people leaders can address performance concerns early, navigate difficult conversations, document issues effectively, and recognize when performance management decisions may create legal risk. Through real-world examples and practical scenarios, attendees will gain strategies for building a fair, consistent, and defensible approach to performance management.

Learning Objectives:

  •      Differentiate between coaching, informal performance feedback, and formal corrective action and identify when each approach may be appropriate.
  •      Apply best practices for documenting performance concerns using clear, specific, factual, and timely information.
  •      Recognize common performance management and documentation mistakes that can create inconsistency or increase legal risk.
  • Identify situations in which HR professionals and managers should consider additional guidance due to potential legal issues, including protected leave, accommodations, complaints, or retaliation concerns.
