Organizational scandals have highlighted the deleterious consequences of unethical behavior for stakeholders, and the critical role of organizational leaders (including managers across all levels of the organization) in crafting and maintaining an ethical infrastructure. In this session, we draw on the latest cases and scholarly research to discuss how leaders can create a strong ethical culture within their organizations.

Our goals for this program are to:

• Understand how employees view an “ethical leader”
• Identify the role of leaders in crafting and maintaining an organization’s ethical infrastructure
• Identify ways to actionably improve an organization’s ethical infrastructure 

Presenter: Jennifer J. Kish-Gephart, PhD

Dr. Jennifer Kish-Gephart is an Associate Professor of Organization Studies at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She received her Ph.D. in organizational behavior and business ethics from the Pennsylvania State University. For more than a decade, Dr. Kish-Gephart has conducted research aimed at understanding why individuals engage in unethical behavior in the workplace. Her research has been published in top-tier management outlets, including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Annual Review of Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, and Research in Organizational Behavior. Her research has been widely cited; and she was recognized in 2013 as a finalist for the Academy of Management Review Best Paper of the Year award. Dr. Kish-Gephart has taught business ethics at the undergraduate, MBA, and PhD levels; presented her research at academic conferences, including the Academy of Management and European Group for Organization Studies; and given invited talks to practitioners and scholars alike. She also organizes the biennial Behavioral Ethics Workshop for business behavioral ethics scholars.
